I watched this gem this morning.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has an excellent write up on the 208 T16 Pikes Peak including their usual beautiful photography. Peugeot managed to put together a truly amazing package of car and driver. As amazing as the car is, Loeb behind the wheel is just flat incredible to watch. That he beat their theoretical best time by two seconds and the record by ~1.5 minutes is just mind blowing.

Sound’s like a lot of fun. I’ve never watched, but from skiing make sure that you’ve got plenty of water and sunscreen with you. Altitude sickness isn’t fun and staying hydrated goes a long way towards preventing it. And even on a cloudy day sunburn happens when you’re at high altitude.

Do you have a good system and watching spots figured out? MarquetteLa is going for the first time this year and any info you can give him would probably be a big help.

Yep, I’ve been living in Denver and playing in the mountains for about a year now. Should be a good time!

We had a good system in place but it’s basically been shot to hell since the event staff completely restructured the event. I’m a die hard fan but the changes they put into place last year really made me think twice about going this year.

As far as supplies go there is both food and drink on the mountain and it’s not too expensive but I would (and d0) definitely bring my own. I usually bring one gallon of water (per person) and a cooler full of food for the day. Sunscreen is a must, a roll of TP is a safe bet but usually not necessary, an umbrella and fold out chair is a WISE investment, and a cheap harbor freight tarp isn’t a bad idea either. I’ve been on the mountain one year and it was 78 and sunny, breezy, it rained, it hailed, and we got a dash of snow all in the same day. The last few years we would get up around 3am to get a good spot on the mountain but you have to wait in a line that takes hours before you get to the staging area/pits. Last year we parked around the pits and stayed in the first stage to view. I like this because you can walk around the staging area, talk with the crew/drivers etc., get food from the vendors though I do like some of the more technical track areas.

Seating SUCKED last year.... It sucked big time. It was SUPER dusty, windy, they put fences up all over the place and had specific seating areas/zones for the spectators vs. the free for all in the past. What sucked is when you found a good corner, folks would either sit in front of you, or just down the line so you couldn’t see the cars approaching. If I’m honest with you and myself I’d say the event has gone down hill the past few years and actually enjoyed myself much more at the Pike’s Peak Airstrip Attack. Allegedly they have looked at this and are making changes this year so we’ll see.

The worst part of the event is leaving once it’s all done, I’ve been off the mountain in under 30 minutes, and also been stuck on it waiting for cars to pass for over three hours!

Here’s a few snaps from the past couple of years!
